Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has urged journalists operating in the state to uphold the ethics of the profession, especially in fair, just and accurate reporting.
The governor also promised to use his position to improve the working condition of journalists in the state.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Christian Aburime, Soludo assured that no journalist would regret working under his administration.
Aburime, speaking during an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Awka, promised to work harmoniously with the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) and create windows of opportunities that would gain them access to travel to other countries and be exposed to more training in the profession
He however charged journalists to avail themselves the opportunities of various local and international training and seminars, which would enrich the knowledge of their profession.
He also enjoined them to be fair and just in discharging their responsibilities and refrain from unnecessary sensationalism and mischievous reportage
The CPS further enjoined them to refrain from reporting incidents that would ignite crises, especially now the country is facing security and socio-economic challenges.
He said, “Governor Soludo’s administration will ensure improved welfare of every journalist. What he is doing now is to strengthen the economy of the state, which he is achieving gradually.
“In no distant time, he will achieve this. His dream is to make Anambra a peaceful, liveable and prosperous homeland.
”I promise that no journalist will regret working under Governor Soludo’s administration. So let us join hands to promote the good works he has commenced.”
