Isuaniocha Residents Seek Soludo’s Intervention on Collapsing Access Road, Bridge

Residents of Isuaniocha Community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State have sent out a ‘Save-Us-Now’ call to Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, demanding his swift intervention on the deplorable state of the access road and failing bridge leading to the area.

They claim that the return of the rainy season has adversely affected their movement and economic activities in the area.
A Facebook user, Henry Elobaba, who corroborated this call with a social media post, lamented that the bridge that connects the Isuaniocha community the capital city of Awka through Okpuno was on the verge of collapse due to flooding in the area.

A video and a picture accompanying the post also show vehicles riskily swimming through the pool of flood on top of the bridge to cross over, one after the other.

Elobaba stressed that the condition of the bridge poses a very great danger to the motorists plying the area as it constitutes a death trap for the road users. He urged the state government not to wait until the structure collapses before they decide to intervene.
He said: “The bridge is on the verge of collapse.

It has become a death trap for motorists as we can see how flooded it is with the layer of the bridge almost gone. The depth of the potholes is nothing to write home about.
“We are beckoning on our amiable Governor, the working Governor, the solution Governor, to please intervene urgently, to avert the possible deadly outcome that may result from it if it finally collapses.

It is quite calling for urgent attention and intervention,” he said.
Contributing, another resident of the area, Mrs Uju Nnebeolisa also stressed the need for government to see and treat the issue as a situation that requires a very high level of urgency.

She also complained of a recurrent gridlock at the Y-Junction and Goodwill Junction in Okpuno, which she said, ensure that motorists travelling to Isuaniocha spend hours at the stretch and called for the government’s urgent interventions.
