Organ Harvest Trial: Obi Sympathizes with Ekweremadu Family, Calls for Prayers

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has expressed sympathy over the health and legal crisis rocking the family of Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

The former Deputy Senate President who was arrested by the Metropolitan Police alongside his wife, Beatrice, in London and charged with the offence of child trafficking and organ harvesting were denied bail on Thursday by Uxbridge Magistrate Court.

Despite his recent statements against the presidential bid of the former Governor of Anambra State, Obi has declared sympathy for the senator at his trying time.

Obi, who recently traveled to Port Harcourt to parley with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, another vocal critic of Obi’s quest to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, called for intercession for the Ekweremadu family instead of gloating over their travails.

Obi in a statement issued through his verified Twitter account, declared: โ€œMy family and I are with the Ekweremaduโ€™s over their travail. We join all men of goodwill in praying for the healing of their daughter and commit them into Godโ€™s hand for justice to be done.โ€

Recalled that Obi, was one of the first political leaders to extend support Chief Willie Mmaduaburochukwu Obiano, his estranged successor during his detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) earlier in March.

Obiano was arrested on March 17, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, on his way to the US, hours after handing over to the incumbent Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo.

However, shortly after pictures of Obiano in the anti-graft agency’s facility surfaced online and went viral, Obi, apparently scandalised by the development, had admonished the commission to treat the ex-governor with respect despite their political differences.

He would later welcomed into Labour Party with open arms, Senator Victor Umeh, the former national President of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) who allegedly plotted with Obiano to shut out Obi after handing the reigns of power to the later in 2014.
