Group Hails Soludo for Clearing the air on Taxing Wheel Barrows, Others

Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONET) has commended the State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for clarifying that the lowly paid operators of wheelbarrow pushers and others would not be taxed by the Anambra State government.

The Chairman of the group, Prince Chris Azor, who doubles as Coordinator, Anambra Open Alliance of Non-State Actors, and Co-Chair Open Government Partnership (OGP) made this remark to newsmen in his reaction to a statement issued by the governor, following its earlier rejection of the planned imposition of levies on wheelbarrow and others in the state.

In the release titled
SOLUDO NOT IMPOSING NEW LEVY ON WHEELBARROW PUSHERS, OTHERS, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Christian Aburime had denied the reports. He said: “For the avoidance of doubt, Anambra State government, under Prof Soludo, has not imposed any new levy on wheelbarrow pushers and allied workersโ€ฆWhat is in operation is the existing regulatory framework inherited by the administration from the previous government”

Aburime further disclosed that Governor Soludo considers the welfare of the citizens of government a top priority of his administration.

In his reaction, Comrade Azor said that the development has portrayed Mr. Governor as a servant and discerning leader who has the security and welfare of the people at heart.

“All citizens and Stakeholders are hereby, enjoined to support the Government of Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo in delivering dividends of democracy to the people,” he said.

He stressed that the dust has been cleared with this rapid response from Governor Soludo through his chief press officer.
