The management of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC), is calculating its losses as yet to be identified assailants set ablaze the Ogidi District office, Anambra state in the early hours of May 16,2022.
The attack which reportedly began at about 1.45am, razed about 32 utility and operational vehicles, including other assets and equipment within the premises of the firm.
The Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, who confirmed the development bemoaned that endeavors made to contact the Anambra State Fire Service at the time to arrive and salvage the situation did not produce any favorable development, abandoning members of staff who were at the spot to help in rescuing the circumstances helplessly, as they looked the office structure and other assets go down to ashes.
According to him, it later took the involvement of the Anambra State Commissioner for Utilities, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka, at about 9.05 am to convey the Fire Service team down to the location of the incident”.
The statement read in parts: “The management of EEDC expressed shock over this ugly incident which is happening at a time the company has invested so much to improve on its operations and transform the socio-economic landscape of the area.
“This is a huge loss to EEDC, and a big blow to the works being made by the company to increase its network and better the quality of service to its customers within Ogidi and Anambra State at large”.
“We have already conveyed this incident to the awareness of the appropriate powers and it is anticipated that good investigation will be carried out and the hoodlums of this cruel act brought to book”.
“There is no way a developing economy as ours can progress if we continue to record this kind of incident”.
This paper deduced that having obtained access into the office building by ripping down part of the wall, the hoodlums battered one of the security personnel safeguarding the office and foisted several machete injuries on his head, leg, and arm as they were insisting on his gun, while his other coworkers took to their heels
The victim, it was gathered was later rushed to the hospital where he was receiving treatment.
The EEDC Spokesman stated the company was thankful to God that no life was relinquished during the invasion. “However, we rebuke this inexcusable act and pray such does not reoccur”, Ezeh stressed.
